Developers in the US caBIG community are using CancerGrid software as part of a new service framework.
Many applications within caBIG - such as caTissue - allow extension and customisation to meet local concerns. However, registration of the metadata for these extensions has been an issue. caBIG developers are now working to embed the CancerGrid metadata registry in a framework of services for the 'Clinical and Translational Sciences Data Standards Repository (ctsDSR)' - a distributed, federated metadata service intended to complement the existing data standards repository. Metadata authored locally - within the cancer centre or bioinformatics laboratory as part of the configuration of tools such as caTissue - will be visible across the entire caGRID.
