Radu Calinescu, CancerGrid ResearcherRadu Calinescu

Radu Calinescu is a Research Officer for CancerGrid Work Package 3.

As a member of the Work Package 3 team, Radu Calinescu is responsible for the joint development of open-standards grid technologies for clinical trials.

Prior to joining the CancerGrid project, Radu Calinescu worked for Sychron, a software company that developed one of the first products in the area of policy-driven management of massively scalable clusters. As the technical architect and senior development manager of Sychron's UK branch, he led several major R&D projects, and co-authored the company's patents.

Radu Calinescu has over ten years of research and development experience in the areas of policy-based resource management and service-level agreements; high performance computing and parallel algorithms; and scheduling and load balancing. The results of this research work were presented at a large number of international conferences or published as journal papers.

Radu Calinescu holds a DPhil in Computation from the University of Oxford, and an MSc in Computer Science from the Technical University of Iasi, Romania. His DPhil thesis received a British Computer Society Distinguished Dissertation Award, and was published in Springer-Verlag's Distinguished Dissertations series.
